Well, here I am! I'm hoping to have a productive day - lots planned - so I thought it might be good to go back to the custom of putting a thread on here and reporting back.
My main project for the day needs to be the children's room. It's an utter disaster, and I'd like it to be less of an utter disaster by 3.30 today when my daughter brings her friend home from school.
Other tasks for the day:
- Get a load of laundry washed and hung up/dried. (For optional extra, put away.)
- 15 minutes work on the piles on my desk. (Another recent project; I've been doing 15 mins work on the ever-present piles on each day when I'm not at work. It's actually getting somewhere!)
- Deal with any incoming mail.
- Get into town to drop a few books off at the charity shop and buy some hamburger buns.
- Get some CPD done; preferably at least half a credit.
- Iron some nametags back in to the children's uniform. Optional extra; get rest of the ironing done (7 tops, at last count, so potentially doable).
- Catch up on some bits and pieces from work.
Duolingo session (yay, finished that one already!)- Write something towards a blog post, but this one can be extremely quick.
- Exercise and shower.
So... time to get my daughter off to school, so back soon!

Phew! OK... got the laundry in, bleached the toilet (after seeing what a disgusting state it was getting into last week, I've decided I ought to make this a habit), put away a load of laundry in the children's room, and spent an annoyingly long time on an important phone call I'd clean forgotten about when I was making my list. Oh, well, good job I remembered it.
(and now just had someone come to the door, another delay, but it was someone I'd been hoping to see for a quote so at least that was helpful...)
So, whew, 10.15. I'd hoped to be working on the bedroom earlier than this, but at least I know it's inevitable delay rather than me getting caught up in 'Net browsing and then feeling guilty. Got almost 5 hours before I need to leave to collect my daughter... let's see what I can do!
First task: Sort out the stuff we're keeping for nostalgic reasons (old schoolbooks, etc.) The children do each have a designated box for this but the boxes have long since filled up. I did get a couple of cardboard boxes to put things in while we sorted out a better system, but it got in a muddle and I haven't been updating for a while. If I can get that sorted out, we'll be in better order for the rest. So... two minutes to grab an energy drink on the way upstairs, and then off I will go! See you later!

Done! Two boxes worth of stuff properly sorted by correct box. A bag of stuff that was hanging around waiting to be put away has now been put away as I have the correct box to put it in. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)
(Note for later: Go through daughter's box with her when she's around, as I'm fairly sure she doesn't want to keep all these exercise books from past years.)
Next task: Clear more shelf space at back of room.
I've cleared most of the books off these, but not all, largely because I don't have space elsewhere for all of them. Breaking this down:
- Take one section of books along to the space I've now cleared in my room
- Move the remainder onto one shelf, so at least they're not scattered everywhere
- Clear away as much as possible of the flotsam that's accumulated on the edges of the shelves
- Give the shelves a good dusting
Also, I think the laundry is nearly ready to be rebooted, so I'll sort that out so that I can hang up the things that need to be hung up to dry. After that would be a good time to head into town, so that I can get the dryer running when I get back.

Quick update: Errands done, laundry rebooted. Also, post arrived and the only letter was for DH, so nothing extra for me to deal with there.
I'll see if I can get the shelves sorted out before I break for lunch.

Yup - shelves all sorted! (Just wanted to mention that the books I was moving from the children's room to mine EXACTLY fitted on the shelf space I had. EXACTLY. I mean, if the carpenter who designed the shelves had popped briefly into the future to measure the shelf space I would need to fit this particular collection of books on one shelf, they couldn't have done a better job of getting it right. OK, yeah, not important, but rarely does real life work out so neatly so I will take a moment to enjoy the fact that, in this case, it has.)
(Also, this means that it's going to have to be one in, one out for this particular book category in future, which is a Good Thing and will keep me under control.)
Anyway, I've now had lunch (and made my packed lunch for tomorrow while I was at it, so that's one job down) and so it's time to get back to work...
Next task: get some of the boxes off the floor.
Time to use some of this shelf space! I want to a) see whether some of the big craft kits that are propped up in a corner will go on the shelf space I've just cleared, and b) clear a bit more shelf space in the big shelving unit in order to put my daughter's oil and watercolour box on it. If I can manage all of that, I'll have a place to put the nostalgia boxes I just sorted out, and I'll have more floor space as well.

OK, done that as well! The massive knitting kit hangs over the shelf too much and is going to have to be rehomed at some point, but I'll worry about that at some point. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) For now, it's off the floor, as is the other stuff, and I've put the nostalgia boxes into the corner. So, at least now there's a bit more floor space clear.
I don't have any more specific tasks at this point; just clear as much of the clutter off the floor and surfaces as is feasible. I've got just under an hour and a half at this point (although I doubt it'd be a good idea to spend it on non-stop cleaning, so I expect I'll take a break and update; maybe I'll try 15-min increments, that old standby). So, off to do that!

Just did 15 mins. It's made a bit of difference; at this point, a lot of it is about sorting stuff into piles/boxes that my daughter will later need to go through. I don't think it would be a very obvious difference to anyone who walked in, but to me there's definitely a bit more method in the madness and I'm getting somewhere.
Bit less than an hour now... I'll go back and do another 15 min session.

Back again after 2nd general 15-min session; yes, still chaos but definitely seeing clear floor emerging. There is sooooo much decluttering that needs to be done when I can sit down with my daughter and do it; looking forward to getting as much as possible of that done in the next few weeks!
Half an hour till I need to leave. I think I'll do one more 15-min session and then call it a day as far as that room is concerned.

Yes!!! Done my third general 15-minute stint, and, while there is still lots to do to that room, there is a noticeable improvement! Off to collect daughter and friend, and when they're here I'll get on with the rest of my stuff.

Damn; thought I'd done an update after getting DD and friend back home and sitting down for a snack, but turned out I hadn't. Anyway, here's what I got done:
- Changed bedding in my room (forgot it was due today; normally do it on Wednesdays, but had to change it an extra time at one point so things got out of sync). Put bedding in wash.
- 15 mins on desk as planned
- Updated accounts
- Put a couple of old school photos of DS, that I'd discovered while doing the sortout in their room, into frames
- Got some of my work done, though less than I'd hoped to get done
- Got a bit of blogging done
So... less than I'd hoped for, but isn't that always the case? Overall, I think I can be proud of the day.
