I promise to choose Happiness and the steps it takes to create it (and with that good things will follow.) I am without a doubt a comfort eater. I need to change this. I need to walk consistently I need to keep it simple when it comes to cooking I need to go to bed at a decent hour so I can get up and walk early. My aim for 2014 is to lose 26kg. Working on the principle of losing .5kg per week. I believe this is achievable, sustainable and maintainable. If I can loose between 2-3kgs per month I will be on target. This is not the total I need to lose but it's a nice start I think. 20/1/14 - I have walked 45mins today with DD15. So far I haven't missed a day this year...I would really like to keep that going and walk every day this year but like all things...1 day at a time. - Having a shake for breakfast. Doing DMum's shopping so I'll get some more fruit and veg. - I have a few more simple meals planned this week. We have been doing this more this year.

21/1/14 - I am feeling my enthusiasm wilting a little. I guess I was expecting more benefits from my efforts. I swear I haven't missed a day walking yet.
At a guess 5 days - 30mins 5days - 45mins 10 days - 1hr 1 day - 2hrs and nothing to show for it except a really sore heel on my right foot.
I felt I'd lost 1kg at my 14/1/14 weigh in but it's come back . I feel I am watching what I eat (except for the few 'party' days) and I am logging my food in an online journal. Plus I am drinking more water than usual.
Just bummed out today. Oh well time to go for a walk.

Today was a massive struggle, felt like I dragged myself all the way there and back, but I got there

Checking in Day 28 (4weeks in to 2014)
Well I have indeed walked EVERY day this YEAR. I am doing my best to take the steps to reach my goals.
Total time walked so far: Approx 22hrs - Approx Calories Burned 5600
However I have stumbled at the 1st hurdle.
My expectation was to loose .5kgs per week (reasonable I thought). Which should have been 2kgs so far. This has NOT happened I can only guess that it has been the effect of Birthday Month.
I WILL continue my promise.
I need to work on:
Diet Water intake Sleep
and continue with my walking. That's all I can do.
29/1-1hr (88stairs)
30/1 - 1hr(88stairs).

Doing well Shellie, and wow what a view you have when you walk... That is gorgeous would make anyone want to go out just to see what the ocean/river has in store for you each day... Little steps each day and you will eventually see the benefits..

Day 31/31 - Well that's January done and dusted. Walked every day for 31 days. Wanted to miss some days, even tried to, but a promise is a promise so I got out there and I did it.
Every day I walked at least 30mins, on 5 days I did 45mins and on 11days I walked for 1 hour and one 1 day 1 walked for 2 hours. I wanted to take it easy and not burn out by doing too much too soon. I have begun to include several sets of stairs this last week.
Total weight loss for January = 0.(big FAT zero)
I am therefore NOT on track for my weight loss goal for 2014 but I will not let this get me down.
So for February I promise to continue taking the steps to happiness and also to make better use of my food journal and try to make better food choices. Not that we eat piles of junk food or take away (I cook from scratch almost every night), but portion control I think must be the issue. And we celebrated 3 birthdays in January, so that didn't help either. No February birthdays.

Two quick things... 1. If you haven't walked much before, some of your fat loss, may indeed be replaced with muscle. This in the end, will help you lose more weight due to increased metabolism...don't feel too disheartened. Do your clothes fit any differently?
2. As a nearly Naturopath, I'm happy to look at your food journal and make some suggestions if you like. Its a minefield out there...so many things that are pushed on us as "healthy" actually should be banned from production in my opinion!!!
